I've always thought an issue writing workshop would attract a lot of attention. I did a small poll in TNP when we were first considering this idea with Forest, and there seemed to be a great deal of interest. An event like this though will rely heavily on contributions from regular issue writers/editors of Forest, so I understand if it's not feasible. TNP unfortunately doesn't have a ton of established issue writers currently who could help out.

Siwale Forest does. @Caracasus is currently an issue editor and I know that @Ransium has quite a bit of experience both creating and editing issues. Also, Sapnu Puas just got an issue accepted. I am pretty sure that I am missing many others too.

We have an even larger number of issues authors, though I'm not going to attempt a list as I'll inevitably offend by forgetting someone. OK then, it sounds as if this should focus on issues rather than on the WA. It's not an area I know much about, so can anyone give us some suggestions about what such an event would, in practice, look like?

It also sounds as if this shouldn't start until at least late November to avoid overloading our 3 editors who will be judging Forest's creative writing contest.

So last time an issue writing workshop was proposed was there any more specific planning? Are we talking multiple discussion threads on issue related topics? Are we going to collectively write an issue? Or what?

Uan-aa-Boa Collectively writing an issue would be really cool! Perhaps we can have a series of lectures by issue author/editors leading up to the collective issue.

Uan-aa-Boa Thank you! Not that I know of in TNP. We have a few one-time authors but that's just about it. I'm hoping that this event will encourage TNPers to write more.

OK - sorry to be a while there. We have some reservations about collective issue writing, as the majority view of Forest's editors is that this properly belongs on the Got Issues forum and that there is a potential for conflict of interest if editors are supporting drafting in another venue. We do have 3 editors willing to share tips and explanations and do a Q&A on issues related things. These are, however, the same 3 people who are the judging panel for Forest's writing competition, so I'm reluctant to ask them to carry the whole of this event as well.

I guess my question at this stage is what people like me and @Siwale, who are keen to support the event but have no issues expertise, can facilitate to broaden the range of what's on offer. Initial thoughts: (a) a poll where people can vote for their favourite issue (b) issue answering contest where people create a new puppet and have 1 week (or other agreed time period) to score as high as possible on Ransium's Greenness Index (c) stuff I hope other people can think of.

I’ve always thought that would be quite a lot of fun to do (though I don’t know if it’s the right thing if our purpose in this event is to teach writing).

Mount Seymour I know I've seen it somewhere - at the World Fair perhaps? Either way, while we do want to teach writing we don't want to land the whole project on the same 3 editors who will just have done the writing competition. So maybe a slightly broader range of issue themed features? Mind you, I always like Clear Cut Conundrum...

I'm actually culturally in awe of The Rejected Realms. They have a forum based book club currently reading Ursula le Guin (7 page short story for ease of access), a Choose your Own Adventure Game conducted by regional polls and apparently Diplomacy (the best board game ever) on some other platform.

I've gotten a whole bunch of entries so far that should keep us three in migraines for a while! About 6 at last count, most poems.

@Uan-aa-Boa Sorry for the late response! It's been a hectic month lol.

TNP would be more than happy to organize and run the issue-answering portion of the event. I think this would be an easy-to-enter event for participants and would provide simple, yet elegant, fun. We would also be happy to significantly assist with event promotion, graphics, and whatever other resources Forest's issue writers/editors would need for the issue workshop portion of the event.

We realize this event puts a strain on Forest's issue writers/editors since TNP doesn't really have any writers/editors to contribute, but are committed to easing the workload on them as much as possible.

Siwale That sounds extremely positive. Right now entries have just closed for the writing contest, so the editors (who are also the judges) are up to their eyes with that. Let's let them deal with that and catch their breath, then we'll try to take things forward.

Uan-aa-Boa Any idea when the writing contest will conclude? I'm just trying to piece together a rough timetable. General Elections in TNP will start in the beginning of January.
