TheCypherNine This committee is for discussing various events that Forest could or host or be apart of. Topics of discussion could include, new events, changes in how events are done, event platforms and how to increase engagement,
Caracasus As I said I was personally impressed by the scavenger hunt and how it blurred the lines between an online game and real life. Do you or anyone else have any ideas for something similar?
TheCypherNine I was thinking a cool thing we could do is each take a single plant all the same in growing season and grow it and post pictures of the progress and if we have any would be gardeners people can get tips to keep their little buds growing until everyone hopefully shows up a fully grown plant. I think what I learned from the scavenger hunt though is maybe everything shouldn't be environment themed because most of us already do a lot of the events that deal with the environment.
Turbeaux The last scavenger hunt was kind of disappointing. I am not going to take a video of myself in the shower and post it publicly! Also, taking photos of unplugged things is quite boring!
Turbeaux Mount Seymour I just shouldn't have entered. I will say that the photography contest was amazing!
TheCypherNine Turbeaux My hope was to get people engaged from real life just like the photo contest but, we would wear the photo contest out if we kept running it. Did you enjoy the idea of the scavenger hunt just not the execution? How would you have made it better?
Turbeaux TheCypherNine I would have chosen a different topic I suppose. I love the idea of scavenger hunts though! Your idea about the plant is excellent! EDIT: Could it be a mature plant going through a blooming cycle? It is way too hot to start any seeds in Phoenix right now!
Mount Seymour TheCypherNine My hope was to get people engaged from real life just like the photo contest but, we would wear the photo contest out if we kept running it. Of course the Photo Contest is an annual thing every December, so doing another photo contest for something else probably would be overdoing it ?
TheCypherNine Turbeaux What kind of different topic? Of Course! I think the biggest issue was I made it a contest. I mean, sharing with the community doesnt always have to be a contest.
Turbeaux TheCypherNine Something a little more tightly focused I suppose. That is why I like the plant concept.
Mozworld One thing regarding the photo contest that I'd consider changing is the closing date. Personally I'd have it after xmas rather than just before it. The run up to xmas can be a hectic time of year for some, and the last couple of year's I've thought about submitting myself however it completely goes out of my head until it's too late.
Mount Seymour Mozworld Hmm... it's set up so that the winners are announced in the first moments of the new year. I suppose we could change that though.
Uan-aa-Boa Our treaty with The Rejected Realms says we should be doing some kind of joint cultural thing with them. Might be worth having a word with your opposite number over there.
Utipsum What about an ARRRRRRbor day. A Pirate themed even in the Forest! We could have Pirate themed WW, Pirate trivia, a treasure hunt and have "Crews" as teams.
TheCypherNine Utipsum That is certainly an interesting event idea and it goes into what everyone was saying about things not necessarily having to be about the environment Can anyone say costume contest?!.
Utipsum I think doing non environmental based ones allow for people who may not fully understand the impact on our environment to come in and hear our message, especially if we invite other regions to participate and there are things we can do to still stay focused on our principles like if we do a treasure hunt the clues could be environmental stewardship based ones and we can do Pirate themed information posts like "Shiver me Clear cut Timbering! That is bad for the environment," I'm always a fan of those "Guess the Portmanteau" quizzes ala Ask Me Another, so we could do "Tree and Pirate terms" or something. _ Like "This outer layer of woody plants was also a notorious Welsh Pirate and is considered by some to be the most successful pirate after capturing over 400 vessels." and then the player would try and give the portmanteau of the two terms alluded to.
Caracasus Hmm... I would really like to have some sort of summer contest. Cypher nine and others - do we think any of these ideas are close to being fully fleshed out and developed yet?
