Thread gravedig!
Anyway, I haven't appointed a Culture Minister because I want it to be a collective responsibility, with individuals maybe taking responsibility for specific projects but not being lumbered with the remit for culture in its entirety.
So the question is - what do we want to happen?
Personally I'd really love to make sure the photography contest runs as before. @Mount Seymour ran it last time - please could you give us a quick outline of what's involved?
More ambitiously, I'd like to explore the idea of a regional publication. Not a newsletter updating regional affairs (though that would be a really good thing too), but a collective of pieces on a range of subjects written by Forestarians. I'm imagining a non-political and less serious equivalent to The Red Star or Cry of Rebellion (from the Leftist Assembly and Federation of Anarchist Communes respectively). We have fiction and poetry. We have the beginnings of some travel writing, I've written some mathematical stuff. I've heard rumours of something really interesting about the role of nature in medieval culture. We have loads of photography and, most importantly, we have a lot of interesting people with stuff to say. We need people who would commit to contribute and we need an editor, whether that's an individual or a collective. Any takers?
These are just my first two ideas. I would love other suggestions from other people as well as comments on these, so the floor is yours, good people.
