Squirrels are a common sight in the Gardens. Problem is… you need to catch and shoot them at the right time without making a noise. That, and it helps to have a lens that can close up the gap. I took careful steps, to make sure that I am as close to the squirrel as possible, while making sure that it won’t run away. The result? This little shot!

The chickens, however, are the opposite end of the spectrum. The hen and the roosters are usually protective of their young ones, but they mingle with the humans a little better. You still can’t get too close to them, but they will still let you take a shot from a closer distance! I make sure to turn up the shutter speed a lot higher so that every movement, every twitch, is captured, and that it won’t be blurred. The daylight helps too. Why are they there, though? That was the question I first asked because Botanical Gardens used to not have them. Then a few months later when I came back to this place, there they are! Hmm… one can only wonder!

The bees are a mixed bag. They won’t run away, but that doesn’t mean that you should provoke them. At least… they didn’t sting me because I was probably far away from them, and I didn’t kill any of their hive members by accident. The point is, there was this walkway with flowers, and there were a lot of bees on it. Fortunately, they don’t sting and were minding their own business. The hardest part is focusing, since autofocus WILL fail you here. You need to make sure that you got all the settings down, and shoot at the right moment. This was the best shot from maybe 5-6. ^^
4 / 12 - DSC_0964 - The Swimming Goose… Swan?
Location: Botanic Gardens, Singapore.
Shot with Nikon D5100, Tamron 18-200 mm. ISO 1000, f/6.3, 1/1600 sec., 200 mm. ± 0 EV.
The lighting conditions are perfect! In fact, more than perfect! All the way down to 1/1600 sec, I was able to capture it as it is, without any motion blur! Is it a goose… or a swan? I would say swan, because it can fly. I think… I am not very good with distinguishing between the two, sorry! >< Going back to the photo, this is my perfect shot out of the many once again! The lighting is perfect, the goose/swan is peaceful, and it is overall a nice ending shot before I made my way back home.
