7 / 12 - DSC_0187 - Lunar New Year Floats and Lights
Location: Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.
Shot with Nikon D5100, Tamron 18-200 mm. ISO 100, f/22, 6 sec., 18 mm. -1.7 EV.
I went to the City Hall area first, just to take some pictures of the city landscape. What I didn’t expect to find was that there was a Lunar Festival celebration! There were these floats just floating around in the waters, and the lights lighting up! ^^ I told myself, “Ohh heck yes!” and with my trusty tripod, I managed to capture this. The exposure was knocked down a few stops in order to make sure that the lights are not overblown. Otherwise, you will be seeing nothing but whiteness and overexposed parts. The reflection went rather well, all things considered.
8 / 12 - DSC_0485 - Smooth Reflections
Location: Chinese Garden, Singapore.
Shot with Nikon D5100, Tamron 18-200 mm. ISO 500, f/10, 30 sec., 40 mm. ± 0 EV.
With my new tripod, I went here and took a lot of shots in the afternoon and evening. And with nightime falling, there was… a lot of noise, actually! This was when the Lunar New Year was still happening, and there were colourful displays everywhere! For this time, I chose this because… well, the reflections. Maybe it represents something. The long exposure would show that the waters become smooth, no longer very clear in terms of reflection. Maybe this represents our muddled minds when we concentrate on something for too long (long exposure). The picture might be brighter and clearer, but if our minds are muddled, we can’t focus. Maybe I am looking too deep into it.
9 / 12 - DSC_0873 - The Lights!
Location: Jewel Shopping Centre, Changi Airport, Singapore.
Shot with Nikon D5100, Tamron 18-200 mm. ISO 9051, f/4, 1/60 sec., 29 mm. -0.7 EV.
The best possible balance between high-speed and low noise. Unfortunately, I have to bump it up to Hi 0.3 for the ISO/Sensitivity, because that’s the best I can get for 1/60 seconds of exposure. The faster shutter speed is needed for the lights to be clear. Technicalities aside, this was actually a regular thing in Changi Airport, these light and laser shows happening at night and displaying the combination of science and nature on a waterfall. It’s beautiful!
