This is a bat that I encountered resting on a building in Tucson, Arizona.
This is a scorpion that I adopted from someone who rescued him/her from a house that was about to be sprayed for pests in Tucson, Arizona. Pretty mellow pet except when it was time to feed him/her (sexing scorpions is tough) crickets!
Photo of Fryingpan Mountain Lookout Tower, a retired U.S. Forest Service fire tower. Constructed in 1941, and at 70 feet tall is the tallest fire lookout tower in Western North Carolina and is protected as a National historic site.
This is a herd of cattle that I encountered near the mouth of French Joe Canyon in the Whetstone Mountains in Arizona. They would not be there if humans were not ranching them!
I cannot provide much context for this one because I was wandering around drunk (I had a big problem with alcohol back then) playing Ingress. I know that I took it out on the west side of Tucson, Arizona. It struck me as an interesting image when I was flipping through my photos. I like the contrast between the jagged razor wire and the foggy morning.

A bit unorthodox, but this is from Devils Tower this summer. I forget the specific occasion for which the flag was lowered, but the symbolism was striking.
the trunk of a fig tree in Hyde Park, Sydney. Taken 12 December 2018. The massive fig trees in Hyde Park are so incredible, I particularly love this tree which has been scored with years of love notes.
