Originally wanted to create the 'Aldmeri Dominion' from the Elder Scrolls. (All you Skyrim players, that's where those dastardly Thalmor Justicars come from). The Dominion itself is more benevolent in the Elder Scrolls Online time period, but the player learns exactly where their religious fanaticism will eventually come from.
Unfortunately, somebody had reserved the name 'Aldmeri Dominion'! Tried a few other variations to no luck. The High Elves of the Dominion refer to themselves as 'Altmer' in-game, so that was one of the combinations I tried, and it worked. So the nation name isn't exactly accurate, but here I am.
